CUSTOM COMMISSIONS
Made for the way you live.
Every commission begins with a space, a need, or an idea.
Together, we shape it into a piece designed specifically for the way you live and the place it will call home.
What we create
Furniture without a catalog.
We create one-of-a-kind furniture shaped around the space it will inhabit, the way it will be used, and the people who will live with it.

How we work
Two ways to begin.
01
A HAND & FORM DESIGN
You bring the space, the need, or the problem to solve. We develop the design around how the piece will be used and where it will live.
02
AN ORIGINAL COMMISSION
You already have an idea in mind. We refine the proportions, materials, details, and construction to give that idea form.
Investment
Built Individually.
Priced Individually.
Every Hand & Form piece is designed and built specifically for its commission. Materials, scale, complexity, and construction all shape the final investment.

We begin with a complimentary consultation to understand the piece and establish an anticipated investment range. If the project feels like the right fit, a $500 Design Retainer begins the design process and is credited in full toward your commissioned piece.
No catalog pricing. No predetermined packages. Just a clear conversation before the work begins.
Delivery
Made in Aledo.
Not Limited to Aledo.
Hand & Form is based in Aledo, Texas, serving Dallas–Fort Worth and North Texas, with select commissions available beyond the region.

Delivery is considered as part of each commission. For pieces traveling beyond North Texas, appropriate transportation is coordinated according to the piece and its destination.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
A few things worth knowing before beginning a commission.
1. Do you accept commissions outside Dallas–Fort Worth?
Yes. Hand & Form is based in Aledo, Texas and primarily serves Dallas–Fort Worth and North Texas, but select commissions are accepted beyond the region. If you’re outside North Texas, include your location when you inquire so delivery requirements can be considered from the beginning.
2. How is delivery handled?
Delivery is planned around the individual piece and its destination. Local delivery may be handled directly, while appropriate transportation can be coordinated for pieces traveling farther. Delivery requirements and associated costs are discussed during the commission process and included in the final proposal.
3. How much does a custom piece cost?
Every commission is priced individually based on its scale, material, design and construction requirements. We begin with a complimentary consultation to understand the piece and establish an anticipated investment range before paid design work begins.
4. How long does a commission take?
Timing varies with the scope of the piece, material availability and the studio schedule. During the initial consultation, we’ll discuss your timing, any important dates or occasions, and the current studio lead time before moving forward.
5. What if I know what I need, but not exactly what I want it to look like?
That’s completely fine. You don’t need drawings or a finished design to begin. A commission can start with the space, a functional need, an inspiration image or simply an idea. The design process exists to give that idea form.
6. Can you recreate a piece I’ve seen somewhere else?
Inspiration images are welcome and can be helpful in understanding what you’re drawn to. Hand & Form does not reproduce another maker’s design exactly, but those references can help inform an original piece designed for you and your space.
7. What types of furniture do you make?
Hand & Form creates freestanding furniture including dining and occasional tables, desks, consoles, nightstands, dressers, beds, hutches, credenzas, armoires, benches, display pieces and smaller studio objects. Hand & Form is a furniture studio and does not currently accept kitchen cabinetry or built-in millwork projects.
8. How does the design process work?
Every project begins with a complimentary consultation. If the commission is a good fit and requires original design development, a $500 Design Retainer begins the design process. It includes one primary design concept and one reasonable refinement within the original direction. If you proceed with the commission, the full $500 retainer is credited toward the approved Commission Investment.
9. Is Hand & Form furniture covered by a warranty?
Yes. Hand & Form pieces include a two-year limited craftsmanship warranty covering workmanship and structural joinery under normal residential use. Natural wood variation, seasonal movement, normal wear and damage caused by misuse or environmental conditions are not workmanship defects.
